Ed Sheeran’s US tour is facing a major shake-up after the remaining support acts reportedly quit in solidarity with Macklemore.
Finneas, Billie Eilish’s brother, was among those who pulled out. He said: “Artists must not be silenced when they speak up for the oppressed.”
Irish singer Aaron Rowe, Danish band Lukas Graham, and Sheeran’s backing band Beoga have also reportedly withdrawn from the tour. The departures came just hours after Sheeran released a statement saying he would not be drawn into a public debate over Gaza.
Sheeran also made clear that he was not responsible for Macklemore being removed from the tour.
He said: “Macklemore coming off tour was the promoter’s decision, it was not mine.”
“I would never let down the fans who had made plans, nor would I abandon the touring crew and the other support acts and musicians who rely on me for work and to make a living," Sheeran added.
Sheeran’s statement has since sparked criticism on social media, with reports claiming that more than 100,000 people have unfollowed the singer.
The controversy continues to grow as artists make their positions known – and it has left people divided.
