Tech giant Apple unveiled its new iPhone generation at its September keynote last week. Unlike previous years, the base model was absent – it will likely be presented in the spring. Instead, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are being launched, along with the iPhone Duo, the manufacturer's first foldable smartphone.

Apple has now specified the technical specifications for the new devices. These reveal that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be launched in Europe and Germany with different mobile network technology than in the US. In many markets, the manufacturer is using its own C2 modem. The domestic version, however, will continue to use Qualcomm components.
What advantages could the C2 modem offer? Looking at the smaller iPhone 18 Pro, this difference doesn't exist, as noted by MacRumors, among others. In this case, all variants will come with the C2 from the outset. One reason for this could be existing supply agreements with Qualcomm, which run until the end of 2026.

Without knowing which Qualcomm technology will be used – experts suspect the Snapdragon X85 – a direct comparison is difficult. However, Apple promises a noticeable performance leap with its new modem compared to its predecessor. Uploads should be significantly faster, while simultaneously consuming less energy.

There are also differences in the iPhone 18 Pro Max battery.
As of now, this information is based on official statements from Apple. Since the C2 will only be released with the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, initial tests are still pending. However, it is confirmed that Apple's own modem will support mmWave 5G for the first time, a technology particularly important in the US.
There are also differences in battery life between the US version and the one released in the rest of the world. While Apple has opted not to require an eSIM in Europe and continues to offer its large smartphone with a card slot, this comes at the expense of battery capacity. US users will therefore have slightly more battery capacity available.
According to the current specifications, this results in a two-hour difference in video playback time. Users in Europe can expect 43 hours of playback time with the iPhone 18 Pro Max, while in the US, it's 45 hours.
