Sandra Bullock opens up about the many disgusting auditions that made her say “not the role for me”

Sandra Bullock told Jennifer Aniston about two moments that shaped her career: refusing predatory audition requests early on, and later choosing to step back from romantic comedies.

Sandra Bullock spoke with Jennifer Aniston for Interview magazine story tied to her new film, Practical Magic 2.

In the interview, Aniston asked whether there had been a moment where Bullock deliberately chose the direction of her career.

The first was from Bullock’s early days in New York, when she was working as a waitress and auditioning on the side.

“I was auditioning for every pervert that existed asking me to drop my pants,” she said.

“I was like, ‘Nope, not the role for me.’ I was working my way up. Every working actor thinks you will never work again, so you just take what you can get and make the most of it.”

She noted that turning those situations down came with real risk, since she had little job security at the time.

Stepping away from rom-coms

The second decision came later, once she was already a Hollywood favorite, and it was stepping away from the genre she initially became famous for. She chose to move away from romantic comedies in the mid-2000s after growing tired of the criticism the genre brought her.
